POLITICS, POWER AND PEOPLE: MOVING FORWARD

How are you feeling after the election here in the United States? Maybe you are thrilled, maybe you are mortified, maybe you are happy, maybe you are unhappy? Either way, it is my belief that our state of mind is within our own power. We choose what we want to focus on, and for some it is easy, for others, not so much. Our state of mind dictates how we behave and how we respond to people and situations.

This blog is specifically directed at the power we each hold to be happy. I KNOW intellectually that I hold the power to be happy and to dictate my future, but I am also not blind that there are always outside forces that come into play. There are parameters that dictate our experiences.

We can continue to live life and not worry about what goes on in politics, as I have done in the past, however, in my opinion, I feel like I have just experienced the most consequential election of my lifetime, with half of the Country feeling ecstatic and the other half of the Country feeling unhappy and fearful. Who is right and who is wrong? I don’t think there is a real answer to that. I believe there are only lessons that we can take from this moment in time. We can still speak up for what we believe in, while trying to live our best life.

Honestly, I never gave a sh*t about politics, until 2016, when one person changed the playing field, that actually transcended politics. To me, this is not a matter of who won and who lost in the election of 2024. It is about way more. I have never been enamored with any political candidate, nor will I ever worship one or anyone else for that matter. This is not “my team is better than your team,” – this time, in my opinion, it is a matter of setting precedence on how we TREAT EACH OTHER and what we are willing to accept and stand for, and at what cost. It is about how low or how high we raise the bar. It is also about acknowledging that politics, like life, is cyclical. We do what we can and try to keep moving forward, in a best-case scenario. However, some of us get stuck, especially when people are not treated equally or one sector of society is discriminated against or judged simply because of race or religion. Personally, I do not want to just accept that this is the “new normal” or pretend it is not happening with extreme consequences. Sure, you may argue that there has always been discrimination and racism, but I can only speak of what I have lived and seen in my lifetime and this, in my opinion, has been a rollercoaster in the world of politics lately.

And with that said, I also believe one of the best ways to move forward and make change, is the proverbial “be the change you wish to see in the world.” We may not be able to control how other people behave or even how they vote, but we can focus on our own response and how we treat others. If we can’t find the light in the world, then we can be the light! If everyone actually focused on that, the Country and the world would get better, kinder, happier and more peaceful, each day.

Why does it matter how people act? Well, I believe it is important to set good examples for our children, as they are the future of tomorrow. What they see and hear matters and what we do matters even more! This is why we have to learn how to respond, instead of reacting when we disagree with other people. We have to learn to engage in meaningful and respectful conversations, so that we can learn from each other and move forward.

What price are we willing to pay for our Democracy because ever since 2016, we have paid the price of friendships, relationships and had numerous discords among family members, co-workers and even strangers on the streets of America. We have lost all common sense and balance when it comes to issues. Many have lost respect for each other because of their political stance. You cannot be living in America and not acknowledge that it is seriously percolating with fear, anger and resentment for many. Whether they are right or wrong in their feelings in your opinion, it is happening. The world in general feels like it is bubbling up, and perhaps everything has to crumble before it can rebuild itself again into something bigger and better?

There is a part of me that is deep into a world of self-love, wellness and helping others to be the best version of themselves, through holistic health solutions, vibrational frequency healing and manifestation and bringing light into the world. Then there is a part of me that is so upset by what is happening in the world (especially in the USA,) as others are being discriminated against and attacked verbally and threatened, because of their race, gender or religion – which by the way, I know someone personally, whose life was just literally threatened recently, after the 2024 election, because of their religion, but I digress.)  There is also the part of me that understands that people want a better economy and to be financially abundant, we all want that. But…I also believe wholeheartedly, that having BALANCE and COMMON SENSE are crucial, no matter where you stand. And also throw in respect and adaptability for good measure, since we seem to have lost that too.

I am in an online spiritual group, and they were recently talking about how this is the best time in history to be alive because we are moving into a “new Earth” – a time of awakening and of raising our consciousness and I wonder to myself, do others outside of these spiritual and metaphysical circles also believe this?

I also wonder have U.S. citizens learned any lessons from the election of 2024 in the United States? Personally, I have learned where many people stand, as it relates to some really serious issues. For me, there are some issues that are non-negotiable. I have also learned that there are so many people who have no idea about policy or what they are actually voting for. I have learned that a LOT of people vote straight letters (D or R) down the ballot, simply because that is all they have known. I have learned that there are so many apathetic people, simply because some of the issues at stake do not directly affect them. I have learned that two powerful quotes really stood out to me this election:

-“Even if you win the rat race, you are still a rat. – B. Pitcock and especially this one:

“When people show you who they are, believe them.” – Maya Angelou

I have learned that there are so many people not willing to listen to each other and engage in mature, open conversations. And I hope and pray that this time around, things will change in the coming months and years.

To be honest, I truly do believe we are moving into a new Earth (independent of the politics) and to me, that means a different state of mind, of consciousness. We are leveling up the consciousness of the Planet and our vibrational frequencies. I believe in all of that – that we are energy beings having a human experience. We will choose the reality we want to live in, meaning, we have a choice right now, to keep dwelling and harping on the things that do not go our way, or we can choose to be the powerful human beings we are and focus on the good and BE THE CHANGE, in whatever capacity we can.

It is important now, more than ever not to linger in a state of fear, anger or resentment but with that said, it is also MORE important to me to stand up for what is right even if I am the only one standing.

I will also NOT sit idly by and allow people to convince me that we have to accept things as they are, if they are unjust. Change always comes with some discomfort. A great number of privileges we have (especially women and minorities) are because someone stood up and fought for those rights. We ALL deserve equal rights, love and peace.

And with that said, I believe that things may have to crumble and reach rock bottom before they are rebuilt again politically, economically, emotionally and globally.

Ultimately, I believe we have the power! Not necessarily the power in politics, but the power to decide how we will respond to any situation, because like I mentioned previously, life and politics are both cyclical and how we respond and move forward is key. We can choose to be bitter, or we can choose to be better. We either choose to bring light into the world or we choose the darkness. We have a choice between love and joy or hate and fear. We are here on Earth to heal not to harm. We are meant to create, not to destroy. So as much as I write for you to read this, I also write for myself as well, in a cathartic, therapeutic way, as a reminder that despite politics and the need for greed and control by many, we are souls having a human experience and until we don’t see each other as such, we will continue to struggle.

There was a time in this Country when disagreeing politically was acceptable – there was not as much hostility and animosity when you had a difference of opinion or political differences. Now, in 2024, it is a whole new world. Hopefully, that “new world” has reached its peak or its bottom (depending on your perspective,) and will turn into a more peaceful place, as time goes by, with more harmony and more co-existence when people begin to unite in LOVE and common ground and a willingness to listen to each other, not just in the United States but all around the world as well. Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better.

This is why personally, I will make every effort today, next week, next month, next year and for the remainder of my years on Earth, to try to make a positive impact, in any way I can, despite who is in political power, while never wavering from what I believe in and stand for.

And as the Rumi quote says, “If everything around you seems dark, look around, you may be the light.” I invite you to BE THE LIGHT as well, whenever possible! It is possible. -LR
