CHOOSING PEACE IN TODAY’S CHAOTIC WORLD

Why choosing PEACE is more important than getting trapped in the chaos.

Peace isn’t pretending chaos doesn’t exist. It’s choosing not to let chaos live rent-free inside your head every single day. The world has always had fear, conflict, negativity, and uncertainty. Every generation has faced it in different forms. I definitely must say that personally, in my lifetime, I have never seen such chaos like we are living now (politically, economically, and from a humanitarian stand point,) but then again, I didn’t live through WW1, 2, the Great Depression, or any other chaotic times.

It is really easy to get consumed with all the outrageous and crazy things happening in our world today. Our phones ping whenever there is “breaking news,” and doom-scrolling is addicting. But the truth is that our nervous systems are not equipped to absorb this much negativity 24/7, regardless of how bad things may be or seem. It’s just not good for our health and mental wellness.

We are overstimulated and down-right stressed every day, especially if we just focus on bad news and “developing stories.” It’s exhausting. And honestly, there’s never (or rarely) any good news on TV.  Personally, I try to not watch tv at all unless it’s for entertainment (ie: movies/series) or interesting videos on YouTube on subjects I enjoy.

Regardless of how good or bad things are in the world it is my firm belief that EVERYTHING in life is about having BALANCE.

What I do know for sure, is that our mental wellness is affected by constantly feeding into fear and bad news. It doesn’t make us more prepared. It just makes us more exhausted, anxious, and disconnected from ourselves.

There’s a difference between being informed and being consumed.

Choosing PEACE means protecting your energy, your nervous system, and your spirit. It means trying to focus on the things that bring you internal peace and make you happy. It’s creating moments of joy in a loud world, that is always bombarding us with chaos.

Peace can be found when we make an effort to go outside or visit places that bring us inner peace (like the beach, church, temple, or just being in nature.) It can be found listening to music, praying, meditating, listening to things that makes us laugh. It’s spending more time with people you love and care about, whether that is a friend, family member, co-worker, neighbor, whoever! It’s focusing on your dreams, without worrying about the nuances.

Ask yourself, what is it that you have always wanted to do? Is there a hobby you have always wanted to start? Is there somewhere you have always wanted to travel to? Is there a restaurant or concert you have been wanting to go to?

Focus on what you can control instead of drowning in everything you can’t.

Chaos will always invite you in and it’s very easy to get sucked in to drama, but peace is a conscious decision. Inner peace is not weakness. In a chaotic world, it’s actually survival. And believe it or not, inner peace can be hard work if you have been trapped in the matrix of fear and news cycle for too long.

Finding peace is a journey worth taking.

Our minds becomes what we feed it daily. If you constantly feed it fear, outrage, chaos, and negativity, then eventually your inner world starts to reflect that. If you are always in a negative vibration of worry, hate or chaos, it affects your environment and your mental well-being.

Protecting your peace isn’t ignorance, it’s wisdom. Sometimes, as the saying goes, “ignorance is bliss” But then other times, the rebellious fighter, warrior spirit in us wants to solve the world’s problems. That is when having inner peace is crucial, so that we can learn to find that balance.

You do not heal the world by destroying yourself emotionally every day trying to carry all of its darkness. You help the world more by staying clear-minded, compassionate and emotionally steady.

When we heal the individual and find our own power to be happy and healthy, we help to affect the collective. If every individual focused more on their OWN mental wellness and happiness, and being kinder, and more compassionate, then little by little we would develop pockets of society that understand the importance of peace and healing.

And if for no other reason than your own mental wellness, peace is the better choice over chaos, every time.

Not every battle deserves your energy.
